April 30, 2012 - Cape Coral, FL

The Cape Coral Hurricanes announced today that they will be showing the award winning - Rise & Shine: The Jay Demerit Story movie this coming Friday, May 4th at Christian Life Fellowship Church in Cape Coral.  The event will start at 6 pm with raffles and a silent auction and will culminate with the movie premier.  This is the first public showing of the movie in Florida.

"We are extremely excited about showing this movie," exclaims J.P. Terrasi, the team's General Manager.  "I've been working with the producers of the movie for about 5 months now and we've finally pulled things together, have chosen a date and can't wait to show the film to the public."

Every athlete, from the weekend warrior to the youngsters stepping onto their first field of play, has a secret hope of one day making it to the top of their sport.  RISE & SHINE: THE JAY DEMERIT STORY recounts the journey of an undistinguished soccer player who chased his dream to the ultimate goal.  A documentary about the power of a dream, RISE & SHINE: THE JAY DEMERIT STORY will be screened on Friday, May 4th, 2012 at Christian Life Fellowship Church as a benefit for the Cape Coral Hurricanes Soccer Club and its non-profit foundation the SWFL Soccer Foundation and as an inspiration for the dreamer in all of us.

Jay DeMerit had drawn attention as a high school and college soccer player, but after graduating from the University of Illinois Chicago, was passed over in the Major League Soccer draft.  While most would accept this conclusion, Jay did not.  Instead he moved to Europe to pursue his sport on a bigger stage.  Doggedly and single-mindedly working his way up

from the lowest levels of English "football" to captaining England's Watford FC team and securing a spot on the 2009 US World Cup team, DeMerit's Cinderella story is one of determination, focus and what can be accomplished when one believes.

A Truth2Life Productions film, RISE & SHINE: THEY JAY DEMERIT STORY is the creation of filmmakers Ranko Tutulugdzija and Nick Lewis.  the 92-minute documentary includes international game footage, interviews with DeMerit's coaches, teammates, family and friends, along with appearances by soccer stars Wayne Rooney, Didier Drogba and Landon Donovan.

The $223,000 project was completely funded through grassroots public support and donations, the most ever raised via "crown funding" for an independent film.  "There were many hurdles along the way that could have stopped us dead, like having to send our 23-year old cameraman/cinematographer to South Africa for the World Cup on his own because of financial constraints," said filmmaker Nick Lewis. "But we feel the project is truly blessed, that it is a film for all ages and one that has the power to inspire. It's not just for those who love soccer, but for anyone who has a dream."

RISE & SHINE: THE JAY DEMERIT STORY has received overwhelmingly positive reviews from its showings across teh U.S. and abroad adn is now also available on DVD.  The Cape Coral Hurricanes Men's Soccer Team and its non-profit foundation the SWFL Soccer Foundation will show the film on Friday, May 4, 2012 at 7:00 pm at Christian Life Fellowship Church at 222 S.W. 20th St., Cape Coral, FL.  Tickets are $4 in advance and $6 at the door and proceeds will benefit the newly formed foundation.  Tickets can be purchased at:  www.RiseAndShineSWFL.com

Jay DeMerit is currently captain of Major League Soccer's Vancouver Whitecaps.  For more information about Jay and RISE & SHINE: THE JAY DEMERIT STORY, visit www.JayDeMeritStory.com .  To learn more about the Cape Coral Hurricanes, go to their website at:  www.CapeHurricanes.com

Cape Coral Hurricanes Host Inaugural "Blue & White" Intra Squad Game!

Blue team edges out the win but a great time was had by every child and adult in the stadium.

April 27, 2012 - Cape Coral, FL

The Cape Coral Hurricanes had their Inaugural "Blue & White" Intra squad game on Friday night in front of about 500 adoring fans.  There was a buzz of excitement and anticipation as the crowd was filing into Cape Coral High School field.  Chatter was stirring with fans asking "What do you think they'll be like?" and "Finally with all of the soccer fans down here in SW Florida, we finally got a real soccer team to watch." and "Can you believe that Cape Coral finally has it's OWN sports team?"  These were just a few comments overheard from the anxious crowd.

Suddenly a rumbling starts and a voice comes over the loud speaker, "The absolutely most intense part of the storm right now is coming....", then suddenly a siren and a thundering beat.... "Introducing.. the Cape Coral Hurricanes... Kamikaze Lyricist... Come' on.. WE ARE THE HURRICANES..." starts the catchy, thumping, hip hop beat of the new Cape Coral Hurricanes Anthem - "The Storm is Comin' !"  This is a song written, produced and mixed by local Cape Coral hip hop artist Kamikaze Lyricist (Josh Maher).

"Josh is an incredible artist and he has been working exceptionally hard for months on creating an incredibly unique song for this new team", states J.P Terrasi, team General Manager. "He already is a huge fan of ours and we're going to be doing some other things together as well."  The new, already wildly popular song, had the crowd bouncing in the stands and dancing.  The new team came walking out of the locker room, blue and white jerseys side by side.  Then when that siren sounded in the song, they jogged onto the field to a deafening cheer.  The Cape Coral Hurricanes finally has hit the stage!

After introducing the entire team, coaching staff and even players not yet in town, the game began.  The white team got the early lead after a solid strike by newcomer, and Puerto Rico International - Raul.  The blue team tied it up soon after in the 35th minute with a powerful, towering header by Forward Eldin Ramic.  After a few more close calls, the game went into half time tied 1 - 1.

During halftime, there were some important announcements including thanking the game sponsor - Il Primo Pizza & Wings.  Then, the two teams who were recent winners of the President's Cup were brought onto the field where each of the players were announced. It's an honor to have one team from your city be crowned President's Cup Champion but to have two is surely a rare occasion and a proud moment. Hurricane Head Coach Mick Whitewood is also the Head Coach for the Cape Coral Cyclones U17 President's Cup Champions. "We're just so proud of our team and all the hard work and growing together over the last couple of years finally has paid off. We're not done though as we will be representing the State of Florida in the National President's Cup competition next month", states Whitewood.

The game got back under way for the second half and after a delightful ball sent in by Sean McKinney, it was met once again with the head of Ramic who thudded it home for the score.  David Torres followed that up with another great goal himself.  Then, finally with three minutes from full time, one of the young guns, Collin Cole, stepped up and followed a shot in to make the final score 4-1 with the blue team coming out on top.  "With this being their first real game together in front of a crowd like this, the guys really shined and put on a great show", exclaimed Whitewood. "We can't wait to get ourselves in front of some of the top competition that J.P. has lined up for us this season.  It's truly exciting."

After the game, the team huddled up on the center circle for a team prayer and the shout of "FAMILY" came billowing out from within it.  Yep, the Cape Coral Hurricanes are for real and after this great show full of talent, the other teams on this year's exhibition schedule better watch out... "The Storm IS Comin' !"

General Admission tickets will be reduced to only $3 and can be purchased simply at the gate on the evening of the game. Gates open at 6 pm.

As traditional with sports teams before beginning their season, the Cape Coral Hurricanes are making their staff, front office and players available for questions and interviews from the media prior to their Inaugural intrasquad game. The Hurricanes will make important player announcements including naming their official 26 man roster. "As we have announced on a few occasions since our open tryouts, we have narrowed the roster down to an overall 40 man squad but now we will finally name the official 26 man roster and who will be set to the reserve squad", states J.P. Terrasi, General Manager.

Head Coach Mick Whitewood and his coaching staff had to initially narrow down over 100 players to an eventual 40 man squad. "The team has been working very hard in practice as they are trying to earn a spot on the official 26 man roster," said Head Coach Mick Whitewood, "there has been definite improvement with many players and there is so much talent on this team, that it’s been difficult. But the guys are ready to move forward and to start coming together as a team. The team is preparing as best they can as we wait for the players that are still coming in from college and outside the country."

The team has announced on prior occasions the strong local talent that is on the team and what top talent there is coming in from other states and even other countries soon. According to NCAA rules, players on current college teams are not allowed to play with other leagues until May 1st. Full player and staff biography information will be made available to the media during the pre-game portion of the event.

The team will also announce their first few games of the season which will highlight some of the actual PDL (Premier Development League) teams that have agreed to play the Hurricanes during this inaugural exhibition season. "We are very excited and appreciative to the PDL teams that have agreed to play us this year. We are confident that our team will prove to be a worthwhile opponent for them and it will also give us the valuable experience that we need as we prepare ourselves during this first exhibition season." Terrasi states that as they have been promoting the team and selling their advertising and sponsorships, many people are extremely excited about finally getting a chance to see the team. This "Blue & White" intrasquad game will give the public a "sneak peak" of the team before beginning their regular season.

The rest of the schedule will be announced soon after a few more dates and teams are confirmed but the non PDL teams will be highly competitive as they are comprised of various area and state-wide All Star tournament teams. The U23 Premier Men’s Soccer team is based out of Cape Coral and will be playing their home games at Cape Coral High School during this spring and summer.

After two very successful open tryouts, the team started to take form. "It was surprising but incredible to see how much tremendous talent and experience there is right here in our backyard," states J.P. Terrasi, the Hurricanes General Manager. We not only had top local talent show up but well experienced players from around the country and beyond. We have 10 local high schools represented on the team, 4 major area colleges and numerous players that have played outside the United States in at least 12 different countries including: Argentina, Peru, Mexico, Trinidad/Tobago, Haiti, Bosnia/Herzegovina, France, Germany, England, Ireland, Senegal Africa and New Zealand to name some.

Head Coach Mick Whitewood and his coaching staff had to narrow down over 100 players to an eventual 40 man squad. The full squad will then be broken down to a 26 man first team and a 14 man reserve squad. "You will definitely notice many of these names as they are truly a ‘who’s who’ in SW Florida High School soccer over the past few years," states Whitewood. There are players that have played Division 1 College Soccer including FGCU, Ave Maria and Webber University here in the state of Florida but others that played college soccer across the country and yet even others that have played internationally.

The additional players that have been named to the team are: local stars - Juanfe Nassar, Georges (Oliviet) Benedict, Collin Cole, Andres Acosta, Masaaki Nakamura, and Macgyver Fondrose. Adam Bates is a top college recruit who is finishing up a sports marketing internship with Manchester United in England and will arrive in a couple weeks and Ramiro Ahumada is the young Argentinean pro that flew in a few weeks ago to try out for the team.

The team will start their season in May and will play into August of this year. They will play at least 8 home games and 8-10 away games, some of which against actual USL PDL teams even though only on an exhibition basis. "We finally solidified a few more matchups later in the season that will prove very worthwhile to the team’s preparation for getting into the league next year," stated Terrasi.

The schedule will be announced soon after a few more dates and teams are confirmed but the non PDL teams will be highly competitive as they are comprised of various area and state-wide All Star tournament teams. The team is currently promoting their sponsorship, marketing and advertising opportunities where there are numerous ways to partner with and support the team. March 31, 2012 - Cape Coral, FL

The Cape Coral Hurricanes announced today that they have chosen the first 29 players that will be part of their overall 40 man squad for the 2012 Exhibition Season. The U23 Premier Men’s Soccer team is based out of Cape Coral and will be playing their home games at Cape Coral High School during this spring and summer.

"We had two open tryouts and a tremendous amount of talented players that came to try out for the team," states J.P. Terrasi, the Hurricanes General Manager. "We knew that there was some excellent talent here in SW Florida but we never expected to see the level of talent that was shown. We not only had top local talent show up but well experienced players from around the country and beyond. We even had a player fly in from Argentina for three days just to try out for the team."

"We have many of the top local high schools represented along with players that have some incredible international experience."

On this list there are players representing Cape Coral High School, Fort Myers High School, Ida Baker High School, Mariner High School, North Fort Myers High School, Bishop Verot High School, Evangelical Christian High School, Paul VI Catholic High School, Estero High School and LaBelle High School, among others. There are players that have played Division 1 College Soccer including FGCU, Ave Maria and Webber University here in the state of Florida but others that played college soccer across the country and yet even others that have played internationally.

The players that have been named to the team thus far are: Nick Presti, Paolo Acosta, David Antunez, Matthew Brust, Juan Rincon, Harvey Rincon, Brendan Abernethy, Leo Caputo, Cody Allen, Andy Scott, Quade Marinell, Aldin Fazlic, Eldin Ramic, David Torres, Derrick Hackett, Ryan Till, Gonzalo Torres, Martin Jijon, Jay Gilden, Matthew DeSanctis, David Butzke, Sean McKinney, Christopher Hamilton, Ivan Zigarevich, David Steeb, Chako Valazquez, and Damian Vincent.

As mentioned in previous news articles, Terrasi has been working on this concept for almost two years now and is creating the team to play a full season of exhibition games this year in preparation to hopefully play in the prestigious United Soccer Leagues (USL) Premier Development League (PDL) next spring. The USL PDL is the premier men’s U23 league in the United States. Terrasi will be applying for an official franchise later this year.

The team will start their season in May and will play into August of this year. They will play at least 8 home games and 8-10 away games, some of which against actual USL PDL teams even though only on an exhibition basis. "We’re excited and honored to be playing against teams in the PDL as that will truly give us a measure of how good the team we have put together is," said Terrasi.

There will be more players announced within the week after a few more confirmations are made. The team is currently promoting their sponsorship, marketing and advertising opportunities where there are numerous ways to support the team. Tickets and a full line of team merchandise will be available for sale soon. You can find out more about the team and read more in depth player bio’s on their website at www.CapeHurricanes.com . Cape Coral Hurricanes Hold Second Open Tryouts

March 6, 2012 - Cape Coral, FL

The Cape Coral Hurricanes had their inaugural season’s second round of open tryouts this past weekend of Thursday, March 1 through Saturday, March 3, 2012.  They were held at the Gateway Soccer Complex in Fort Myers, Florida.  There were over 25 new and very talented players that registered for the event and everyone had a great weekend.  There were various skills games coordinated, along with timed speed drills and two full, refereed games where the players can showcase their real game skills.

Many of the original players from the first tryout came as well but what was surprising was to find out how many not only came from out of the area, but out of the country to this second tryouts.  "It was incredible seeing where these guys were coming from and the type of experience they had playing in other countries.  The talent level was extremely high and it’s going to be a tough decision to narrow it down to our final 40 players", stated J.P. Terrasi, the team's General Manager.  "We knew that more of the area’s men’s leagues were going to show up but never anticipated this.”  Examining the registrants showed that the tryout field was jam packed with players having experience in very high level teams and in various countries.

It was a busy weekend for the players and coaches but having the players showcase their skills was paramount.  “We invited a few key players to come in and tryout with the team this time,” said Mick Whitewood, the team’s head coach, “but there were definitely a few surprises as well.  We got a pretty good look at them and everyone seemed to have a great time too”.   The players received a blue and white player jersey with the Hurricane logo and a number on the back, a black pair of shorts and a commemorative t-shirt that was sponsored by Terrasi Media.  The players were also treated to Gatorade, bottled water and snacks throughout the weekend.

The coaching staff will eventually narrow the selection to 40 players, of those 26 will be named to the official starting roster and the remaining 14 players will be offered a spot on the reserve squad.  “We know that at this level there are many changes throughout the season,” stated Terrasi, “with players moving on, going back to school and even getting hurt, so we are preparing for that contingency with the reserve squad.”

The team is trying to put together one last weekend of open tryouts in Naples during the next few weeks but with the talent that they’ve seen thus far, there is more than enough to field a very strong team.

Cape Coral Hurricanes Team First Tryout A HUGE Success!

February 6, 2012 - Cape Coral, FL

The Cape Coral Hurricanes had their 1st round of open tryouts the weekend of Friday, Feb. 3 through Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012.  They were held at Jim Jeffers Soccer Complex in Cape Coral, Florida.  There were over 50 talented players that registered for the event and everyone had a great weekend.  The players received a nice blue player jersey with the logo and number on it, a black pair of shorts and a commemorative t-shirt that was sponsored by Terrasi Media.  The players were also treated to Gatorade, bottled water, snacks and lunch on Saturday and Sunday.

Aside from a few of the very talented players that were invited to attend, the coaching staff was pleasantly surprised with the amount of talented players that came directly from Southwest Florida.  "There is definitely a high degree of talent in SW Florida", stated J.P. Terrasi, the team's General Manager.  "We've seen some great players in the men's leagues down here but never anticipated this.  Beyond that, this field was jam packed with soccer headliners from the past couple of high school soccer seasons."

"I don't think I would have gotten another opportunity like this if it weren't for this team," claimed Paola Acosta to an NBC Channel 2 reporter on Saturday.  "This is going to give some of us a chance to follow our dreams of becoming a professional soccer player."

There were a few cuts made from the entire group, the ones remaining on Sunday were all invited back for the second tryout session that will happen in a couple weeks over in Fort Myers.  "We know that some guys that attended were notified of the tryouts only a few days before the weekend, so we wanted to make sure that everyone felt that they were given a fair look at their talents.  I personally invited each of those players to the next tryouts at no extra charge," said Terrasi.

The next and final round of tryouts is set to be held at the Gateway Soccer Complex in Fort Myers from Thursday, March 1 through Saturday March 3, 2012.  Thursday and Friday will be held from 6pm to 9pm and Saturday will be from 1pm to 6pm.

Press Release - Bring The Team Website

July 18, 2011 - Cape Coral, FL

New Website www.BringTheTeam.com

Solicits Signatures for Cape Coral Men’s Soccer Team!

Finally, Cape Coral, Florida may be put on the sports world’s map by acquiring

Its’ own Top Amateur Men’s Soccer Team.

(Cape Coral, Florida) - Terrasi Media, Inc. has created a website that asks local residents, business owners and leadership to sign a petition if they support the idea of bringing a professionally run, top amateur, U23 men’s soccer team to Cape Coral.  “If we can make this happen,” says J.P. Terrasi, “it will finally give the citizens of Cape Coral and all of Southwest Florida a reason to cheer!”

Anyone can simply go to:  www.BringTheTeam.com where they will read about this new and exciting project and if they choose, can sign the petition by giving their name and address.  Once they submit their name, they are also given the option to be added to their email list for team news.

“This initiative was started over a year and a half ago and a lot of time, effort and work has gone into developing this fantastic idea.  This could literally change how Cape Coral is viewed all over the country.” says J.P. Terrasi, President of Terrasi Media, Inc.  “Cape Coral is the perfect market for this sort of team.  This city already has a large soccer following between having over 2,500 players in the CCSA (Cape Coral Soccer Association), about 30,000 Hispanics and over 15,000 Europeans, we could not ask for a better market to develop this team.

One of the first things we did was get the support of the CCSA. It is the 2nd largest soccer association in the state of Florida and has one of the largest competitive team organizations (25) in the country.  The CCSA has been very supportive of the idea and with all of the soccer fans we have in the area, we knew there would be a strong market for developing this team.

“We are hoping for at least 5,000 names from the petition.  That will show, beyond any doubt, that Cape Coral and Southwest Florida can support its own local soccer team.  Once we show that we got the support from the community, the next few steps will be much easier.”  Terrasi Media, Inc. is the team’s marketing consulting, media relations, and design company that specializes in small business marketing.

“We are still having conversations with potential investors as we still have some outstanding shares of stock to sell.  So, if anyone is interested, they can contact me directly.”   Once Terrasi secures the proper investment group and the amount of funding needed to finalize the official application, then they can solicit for the team franchise with the USL (United Soccer Leagues) PDL (Premier Development League).  Once they become a full member of the league, they will be eligible to play in league games and tournaments.  “We are hoping that we can wrap this up soon, so we can play in the league in 2013.”

The www.BringTheTeam.com website explains in detail the origins of the idea and the mentality behind the petition.  It’s simply asking for support of the idea of bringing a team to Cape Coral.  “We are in the process of fielding a team that will play exhibition games this spring and summer.”  The team will have a 26 man roster and consist of top local talent primarily under the age of 23, although they can have up to 8 players older than the age of 23.  We are extremely excited about the team and although Cape High School will be our ‘home” field, we will be playing in many venues all over Southwest Florida.”
